Jan 08, 2025The start of a new year brings so much energy for change, but how often does it fizzle out before the end of January? The truth is, momentum doesn’t happen by chance—it’s built through small, intentional steps.
Last year I wanted to create a habit of stretching and lifting weights after my workday. Many times I would forget, say I didn't "have time" because I needed to dinner prep or make excuses about having to change into workout clothes and get distracted. Now I am realizing that it hasn’t been about willpower as much as it is about removing resistance.
I have already moved my weights to a spot I pass by when I log off for the day, eliminating the excuse of “too much effort to set up.” I have laid a shirt and shorts next to them that I could change into right there. And I have blocked 30 minutes to work out specifically after work to remove the frequent distractions or mind list churn on what I need to do next... and instead set myself up for ease in transition to what I intended to do.
