Supporting a person in a meaningful way requires some creativity and experimentation. They may not know what would help them in the moment (especially if they are not used to asking for help), so be patient and open to trying different things to see what is most appreciated and beneficial to their healing. We hope this list helps!
"When my dear friend, Maggie, was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2020, I wanted to provide something that would bring her comfort and also to know how much she meant to me. I knew she was struggling with the fear of losing her hair with chemo treatments but I had no idea if she would like a scarf, beanie, stocking hat, baseball cap or wig? What color, texture or look would she be comfortable with? I also knew she was having a hard time with food - smells, taste, and ingredients so I wanted to avoid that initial idea for now. Deciding what to do (or gift) was confusing." - Marla.
